SENIOR RESULTS Round 10
1sts and 2nds still on top!
The 1st XI, 2nd XI and clubbies have all but sewn up a top two finish win one round to go unless a miracle happens and a team wins outright below. This means that the 1sts and clubbies will host a semi final at Mulgrave on the long weekend, and the seconds although finishing top 2 will play away due to ground allocation.
1st XI The firsts had to win on Saturday to secure top of the ladder, but after batting first and Brett Aldons making a great 128no off just 126 balls and posting a team score of 4/215, it seemed like a win was in the bag with Hawthorn needing 46 off just 5 overs. But they kept on swinging and off the last over needed 5 to win with one wicket in hand. As it turned out Spider got a wicket on the last ball and it was a tie. This was enough to secure a top two finish, but the 1sts play 2nd placed Deepdene this week with the winner taking top spot but a loss will see the 1st finish second.
2nd XI The 2nds just keep on winning and have almost barring a miracle secured top spot. They gave Hawthorn a cricketing lesson, as Hawthorn managed just 8/126 off its allotted 40 overs with Shane Bourne, JC and Bahee each taking 2 wickets. In reply Mulgrave passed Hawthorn with the loss of just 3 wickets with Matt Cull 68no and Travis Lapthorn 32.
3rd XI Mulgrave batted first, posting 132 with Hayden Crozier making 66. In reply Tooronga Districts passed the score with the loss of just 4 wickets. U/15 Tom Gladman was the best of the bowlers taking 2/32.
4th XI The 4ths have had an up and down season due to numbers, but when they have fielded a full side they have been the best in the comp, beating the top side and many other sides above them, however, a number of forfeits may see them relegated next season. However, they did it again on Saturday, restricting Burwood Uniting Canterbury to 7/135 with Dan Lee taking 4/37. In reply Mulgrave costed to victory by 8 wickets with Steve Aldons on a return from a Shoulder Reconstruction making 75no and Michael Campbell making 56.
Club XI STC South Camberwell batted first posting 8/184 with Darren Cram taking 4/23 and H Kanthalingam 2/28. In reply Mulgrave were bowled out for 170 with George Hill making 44 and Rod Ritchie 29. Although they suffered a loss, the clubbies will finish 2nd. Round 9
1st and 2nds keep on winning! 1st XI The 1st XI has to keep winning to stay on top and earn a home final. This round we faced 3rd placed Mont Albert in what looked to be a tough game. We won the toss and batted and got off to a good start losing Flinny on 66 for 34. We lost our second wicket at 120 and it looked like a big score was on the cards. With 2 overs to go we were 5/285 and within 8 balls we were dismissed for 287. A disappointing finish, but a great result. Brett Aldons returned to some form with 61 and Kenan Alev promoted up the order made his highest ever score, 84. Justin day continued on his fine form with a well made 26 and Jarrod made 28 late with Tim Harper hitting 4, 6, 4 within four balls before getting run out. The second week Mont Albert were never in the contest losing early wickets and finally being dismissed for 141. Jarrod Bradley took 6/25 his best bowling figures at the club and Paul Young chipped in with 3/34.
With 2 games to go, the first are a game clear on top of the ladder, but must win both against finals contenders to stay there.
2nd XI The seconds also on top were also playing Mont Albert who were fourth. Having won the toss Mulgrave batted first. Lappa again got a start making 38, and Matt Cull made 66. Phil Muscat made 70 and Lee Griffith continued on with his fine form making 34. However similar to the firsts the 2nds were 5/233 and were dismissed for 240. However, Mont Albert struggled for most of the day and were finally dismissed for 212. Spider in his return to turf cricket after surgery late last year took 5/25, Richard Dwelly took 3/46 and Cohen Howell took 2/35. Another great effort from the 2nds but similar to the firsts must continue to win to cement top spot.
3rd XI The very young 3rds struggled in this game being dismissed for 148 with Michael Campbell making 48, Robert Broley making 26 and Alex Pagliaro making 24. In reply Ringwood made over 300 runs, with Tom Gladman taking 3/43 and Michael Sloane taking 2/46.
4XI Unfortunately due to the long weekend, and unavailabilities of players, the 4ths had to forfeit this game.
Club XI After being well beaten last game, the clubbies were looking for redemption against top of the table and undefeated Glen Iris. However at 5/65 things were looking too good, but a great partnership of 168 between VK and Darren Cram saw a great recovery and a final total of 300. Darren Cram made 69 his highest score at the club and VK made 125, and Ross Wright chipped in with 22 at end. Bahee and VK had to leave early on the second week due to a wedding, but had enough time to take 5 wickets between them and crush any chance that Glen Iris had of chasing down this big score. Bahee took 2/15, VK took 3/23 and Rukesh took 3/68 late to dismiss Glen Iris for 248. The clubbies have consolidated 2nd spot on the ladder.
So with 2 rounds to go, the 1sts, 2nds and Clubbies all will play finals and just depends on how they go in the last two games as to where they finish on the ladder, a great result so far, keep up the good work boys. Round 8
1st and 2nds consolidate top spot 1st XI The 1sts and 2nds continued on their great winning form and remain at the top of the respective ladders. The 1sts played arch rival Ashburton and were asked to bowl on a good batting wicket and quick outfield. At 2/120 at tea Ashburton were eyeing off a 300 plus score, but a great 19 over spell from Adrain Grima 4/52 and good bowling from others restricted Ashburton to 243 all out. Jarrod also finished with 3/55 off 21 overs. Second week and a poor start saw Mulgrave 2/0 after 13 balls. But a partnership of 60 before Flinny went out for 35 and then a second partnership of 130 between the Day boys saw us in a good position. A couple of quick wickets put us under a bit of pressure, but Kenan Alev batted very well for 31no to steer us to a four wicket victory. Dean couldn't get his maiden ton, being dimissed for a fantastic 92 and brother Justin continued on his great form with 67. A great result, with 3 games to go, the firsts are a game clear on top but need to keep winning to secure a top 2 spot.
2nd XI The seconds were playing 5th and needed to win to stay on top. They batted first and made a huge 8/295. Lappa continued on his fine form posting his first senior ton with 111. Bahee has finally been convinced into playing turf cricket and made a very good 75 while Lee Griffiths 40no and Mull Cull 23 also batted very well. This was always going to be a tough score to beat and the seconds won comfortably, with captain and part time bowler Hans Nathanielsz taking 6/30 off 23 overs and Lochie Wright taking 2/26 off 10 overs. The seconds are on top, but only one point clear of 2nd and 3rd and play the 4th side this week, so another important game for them.
3rd XI The 3rds had a bye this round.
4XI Once again the 4th XI had a star studded line up and batting first posted 4/250 with Michael Campbell making 110 and Scott Tunnicliffe making 104no. In reply the opposition were dismissed for 117, with Neil Purdham taking 4/26 and Paul Irvine taking 3/11.
Club XI For a change the club XI had a bit of a touch up, losing by 10 wickets. However, the clubbies still remain a game clear in 2nd position, so we will call this a hiccup.

Round 7
Last round before the Christmas break saw a massive weekend for the senior club. Not only did we finally get all 5 teams on the park, but we walked away with 5 wins including the 4th XI knocking off the top team. Well done to all teams. The firsts and seconds currently sit clear on top of the ladder, while the club XI is sitting second. Unfortunately the 3rds and 4ths are not in a great position, but it is a great learning experience for these young teams.
1st XI Sitting on top of the ladder and playing the 5th side, we had to win. We lost the toss and were sent in. After a slow start the run rate picked up and sky rocketed at the end thanks to some good hitting from Justin Day. David Flintoff again continued on his merry way, making 48 and Justin made 32no. and has scored 120 runs in his last three innings without being dismissed, a great return to form. With a total of 7/156 on a very long outfield, I was confident of a win. East Doncaster got off to a quick start, but were hauled back in due to some great bowling from Adrian Grima who took 3/18 off 10 overs and we had a comfortable win. Also 3 run outs was a highlight of the fielding.
Father Son Game It should not go without mention that the first XI had David Flintoff and son Brad Flintoff play in the firsts on Saturday. An awesome achievement for the Flintoff family, and congratulations to you both.
2nd XI The seconds also played East Doncaster, and on a horrible batting wicket, scrambled to 138 due to 38 from Captain Hans Nathanielsz and 30 from Phil Muscat. They were up against it, but were able to bowl E.D. out for 128 and had a good win. Cohen Howell bowled exceptionally well and took 3 wickets, along with Lee Griffith who took 3 and Shane Bourne who took 2.
3rd XI Having struggled a little this season the 3rds had a great game. Batting first they posted 207, solid contributions from most with Scott Tunnicliffe making 46, Rob Velardo 32, Michael Sloane 31 and Tom Gladman 30 the best contributors, they then dismissed Old Carey for 198 with Monash Fernando taking 2 for 21 on his return to the club and Callum Hope also taking 2.
4XI Having struggled to field a side all year, Bhungy pulled some strings and had a star studded line up led by 1st XI premiership player James Morris and last years 3rd XI captain Neil Purdham. Batting first they posted more than 200 with Neil making 80 odd. The bowling attack was awesome and they dismissed the top team for just over a hundred.
Club XI They just keep going and going and sit second on the ladder after another easy victory, dismissing their opposition for just over 90, they passed them 2 down. Don't have any individual scores.
Round 6 The firsts and seconds both played Richmond Union in Round 6, and both won outright and moving to the top of the table in each grade. In the ones, Jeff De wett debuted. A young 17 year old we were fortunate enough to pick up from a District club he had match figures of 5/56. Brett Aldons made a quick fire 50 and Flinny made 40no in the first innings, while Jarrod took match figures of 7/31 and Justin Day batted brilliantly in the second innings making 32no.
In the seconds, Bourney ended with match figures of 7/37, Brad Flintoff took 4/14 in the first innings and Travis Lapthorne was again in the runs making 50 odd in the first innings.
Both the firsts and seconds have one final game before Christmas. Both against East Doncaster who are 5th in both grades. A win for both teams will consolidate top spot, but put them 2-3 games clear of fifth and almost guarantee a finals birth with only 4 games after Christmas.
The very young 3rd XI did very well to dismiss their opponents for 199 with Lochie Wright coming back from injury taking 4 fa. However, in reply a number of the boys got a start but couldn't go on with it and fell 10 runs shot.
The 4th XI had to forfeit due to a lack of numbers and the clubbies kept rolling on with Bahee making another ton, 168 his 4th or 5th for the season so far with an average of over 160. They won the game comprehensively, but are in a 4 way battle with teams in their grade on the same points, so must keep winning.
Round 5 DAY 1 for turf Round 5 Week 1 1st XI The firsts had a reasonable day, but have left themselves with plenty to do next week. Sent in we were struggling early at 4 for 40, had a good recovery to be 6/160, but were all out for 216. Justin Day found some form with 60no. Joel Noon in his second game made 36 and Kenan opening the batting to replace Flinny looked very good and made 27.
2nd XI The seconds started off excellently at 4/200, but were finally dismissed for 265. Travis Lapthorn made 80 plus, U/17 Matt Cull batted well for 30 plus and Shane Bourne added a quick fire 33 late in the innings.
3rd XI The 3rd XI is a very young and inexperienced team and still learning the way on turf. They were all out for 125 with Dylan Whitfield making 46 and Bulleen are 2/72 in reply.
Round 5 – one day match
4th XI Batting first the 4ths made 8/187 and were passed on the last ball at 2/190. Dan lee made a stylish 64, Scott Beecroft 26, Alex Pagliaro 18. U/15, Tom Gladman opened the bowling and bowled 5 overs for 0/13 he bowled well without luck, Dan lee bowled his 10 overs for 0/30 and each of the other two under 15 boys also bowled 5 overs. Man of the match as deemed by Hawthorns Captain was Dan Lee.
5th XI Bahee again dominated the batting in the clubies, making 130 out of 220, however, this wasn’t enough as the opposition won the game. This is Bahee 3rd century this season.
